About The 2026 Host Format

The United Bid β€” comprising the USA, Canada, and Mexico β€” was awarded hosting rights on June 13, 2018, defeating Morocco 134 votes to 65. It will be the first World Cup hosted across an entire continent, and the first to span three nations.

The United States hosts 11 venues and 71 of the 104 total matches, covering every knockout round from the Quarterfinals through to the Final. MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ will host the World Cup Final on July 19, 2026.

Mexico becomes the first country to host the World Cup three times (1970, 1986, 2026). Estadio Azteca β€” the famous venue of two previous finals and the Maradona 'Hand of God' goal β€” hosts the 2026 tournament's opening match.

Canada co-hosts the World Cup for the first time, and uniquely, the Canadian national team has also qualified, meaning Canada becomes both host and participant.
